Originally from Sulphur Springs, Texas, Jim graduated with honors from Sulphur Springs High School, where he served on Student Council, played football, and was MVP of the Wildcat baseball team.
Jim attended East Texas State University (now Texas A&M University-Commerce). Although he received a full-tuition scholarship, Jim worked his way through college. Still, he made time to be active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity and other school organizations. When Jim received his degree with high honors and a double-major in Economics and Political Science, Jim became the first of his family to graduate from college.
After college, Jim moved to Houston for law school, and then passed the Texas Bar exam and began his career as a business and technology lawyer in Dallas, where he met the love of his life, Beadie (also a 5th generation Texan).
Jim and Beadie have four children: two currently attend RHHS, one is at Cain Middle School, and their oldest is studying to become a priest at Notre Dame Seminary.
The Chester family moved to Heath in 2015 and Jim immediately got involved in the community, including serving as HOA president of The Ridge for 5+ years, on the City of Heath Park Board, and the Heath EDC/MBC. (See the Community Involvement, below, for more).
As a growing city, Heath faces a number of challenges that our leaders will need to address over the coming years. A significant impetus for Jim’s decision to run for Heath City Council is to ensure that Heath’s growth is aligned with community values and that development progresses at a measured pace that will not overly burden local resources. (See the Core Beliefs, below, for more).
To quote Jim:
Heath is already a wonderful, special place. Thus, Rule #1 is “Don’t mess it up.” And Rule #2 is: “Try to make it even better – as long as you don’t break Rule #1 in the process.”
Jim has been honored to be able to serve his community in a number of ways. Here are some highlights of that service:
